Governor Perdue has signed legislation which allows law enforcement and probation officers to conduct searches of people on probation, their premises, and their vehicle, without a warrant, rather than require approval by a judge.
Senate Bill 920, Probation Reform, introduced by Senator Tony Rand from Fayetteville, requires probationers to submit to these searches as a condition of probation. The bill, which became Session Law 2009-372 passed the NC General Assembly with unanimous support from both the house and senate.
